De-Recognition of Wikimedia Hong Kong[编辑]

This is an update from the Wikimedia Affiliations Committee. Translations are available.

Recognition as a Wikimedia movement affiliate — a chapter, thematic organization, or user group — is a privilege that allows an independent group to officially use the Wikimedia trademarks to further the Wikimedia mission.

The principal Wikimedia movement affiliate in the Hong Kong region is Wikimedia Hong Kong, a Wikimedia chapter recognized in 2008. As a result of Wikimedia Hong Kong’s long-standing non-compliance with reporting requirements, the Wikimedia Foundation and the Affiliations Committee have determined that Wikimedia Hong Kong’s status as a Wikimedia chapter will not be renewed after February 1, 2017.

Review of initial updates on Wikimedia movement strategy process[编辑]

The Wikimedia movement is beginning a movement-wide strategy discussion, a process which will run throughout 2017. For 15 years, Wikimedians have worked together to build the largest free knowledge resource in human history. During this time, we've grown from a small group of editors to a diverse network of editors, developers, affiliates, readers, donors, and partners. Today, we are more than a group of websites. We are a movement rooted in values and a powerful vision: all knowledge for all people. As a movement, we have an opportunity to decide where we go from here.

This movement strategy discussion will focus on the future of our movement: where we want to go together, and what we want to achieve. We hope to design an inclusive process that makes space for everyone: editors, community leaders, affiliates, developers, readers, donors, technology platforms, institutional partners, and people we have yet to reach. There will be multiple ways to participate including on-wiki, in private spaces, and in-person meetings. You are warmly invited to join and make your voice heard.

The immediate goal is to have a strategic direction by Wikimania 2017 to help frame a discussion on how we work together toward that strategic direction.

Regular updates are being sent to the Wikimedia-l mailing list, and posted on Meta-Wiki. Beginning with this message, monthly reviews of these updates will be sent to this page as well. Sign up to receive future announcements and monthly highlights of strategy updates on your user talk page.

Dear Wikimedians/Wikipedians:

Today we are starting a broad discussion to define Wikimedia's future role in the world and develop a collaborative strategy to fulfill that role. You are warmly invited to join the conversation.

There are many ways to participate, by joining an existing conversation or starting your own:

Track A (organized groups): Discussions with your affiliate, committee or other organized group (these are groups that support the Wikimedia movement).

Track B (individual contributors): On Meta or your local language or project wiki.

This is the first of three conversations, and it will run between now and April 15. The purpose of cycle 1 is to discuss the future of the movement and generate major themes around potential directions. What do we want to build or achieve together over the next 15 years?

We welcome you, as we create this conversation together, and look forward to broad and diverse participation from all parts of our movement.

On behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation Elections Committee, I am pleased to announce that self-nominations are being accepted for the 2017 Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees Elections.

The Board of Trustees (Board) is the decision-making body that is ultimately responsible for the long-term sustainability of the Wikimedia Foundation, so we value wide input into its selection. More information about this role can be found on Meta-Wiki. Please read the letter from the Board of Trustees calling for candidates.

The candidacy submission phase will last from April 7 (00:00 UTC) to April 20 (23:59 UTC).

We will also be accepting questions to ask the candidates from April 7 to April 20. You can submit your questions on Meta-Wiki.

Once the questions submission period has ended on April 20, the Elections Committee will then collate the questions for the candidates to respond to beginning on April 21.

The goal of this process is to fill the three community-selected seats on the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees. The election results will be used by the Board itself to select its new members.

The full schedule for the Board elections is as follows. All dates are inclusive, that is, from the beginning of the first day (UTC) to the end of the last.

  • April 7 (00:00 UTC) – April 20 (23:59 UTC) – Board nominations
  • April 7 – April 20 – Board candidates questions submission period
  • April 21 – April 30 – Board candidates answer questions
  • May 1 – May 14 – Board voting period
  • May 15–19 – Board vote checking
  • May 20 – Board result announcement goal

In addition to the Board elections, we will also soon be holding elections for the following roles:

  • Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC)
    • There are five positions being filled. More information about this election will be available on Meta-Wiki.
  • Funds Dissemination Committee Ombudsperson (Ombuds)
    • One position is being filled. More information about this election will be available on Meta-Wiki.

Please note that this year the Board of Trustees elections will be held before the FDC and Ombuds elections. Candidates who are not elected to the Board are explicitly permitted and encouraged to submit themselves as candidates to the FDC or Ombuds positions after the results of the Board elections are announced.

Cognate以及自动跨语言链接[编辑]

从4月24日起，一个新的跨语言链接系统将在维基词典部署。 它叫Cognate，这个扩展可以在各个维基词典之间，自动将拥有相同标题的页面相互链接。这意味着这些链接将不再需要添加到主名字空间的页面中。

测试功能：分列对比的编辑视图[编辑]

5月9日起, 分列对比视图功能上线了，尚属于测试功能。这意味着在编辑冲突解决方案时，可以用新的操作界面。分列对比视图功能，可以方便编辑者在冲突词条和已编辑词条上找不同；同时，复制粘贴也更方便，这样编辑可能会更快，更容易上手一些，也算是帮助解决了过去用户们的技术需求(WMDE Technical Wishes)之一。各位编辑先试用看看用户体验。

RevisionSlider[编辑]

RevisionSlider will be available as a default feature for all users on all wikis from May 17. The RevisionSlider adds a slider view to the diff page so that you can easily move between revisions. The slider view is collapsed by default, and will load by clicking on it. It can also be turned off entirely in the user preferences. RevisionSlider has been a default feature on German, Arabic and Hebrew Wikipedia for 6 months and a beta feature on all wikis for 8 months. The feature fulfills a wish from the German Community’s Technical Wishlist. Thanks to everyone who tested RevisionSlider and gave valuable feedback to improve the feature! We hope that RevisionSlider will continue to serve you well in your work.

鉴于定性和定量的调查结果是乐观的，维基媒体基金会的前端开发团队准备再推出一个测试功能：词条预览 (Page Preview)。

这个，词条预览不是指编辑完词条之后预览页面，而是说，查阅维基词典的各位，如果对一个词条中的某些用语没办法充分理解，而这个用语又恰好有关联了链接的话，那就可以看到这个用语的词条页面，而不用离开现在所在的词条页面了。然而，维基词典的页面现在对这个功能的支持，对于维基词典社区用户们的需求，显然是不够的。

打算开发这样的功能，给词条内容中的每个用语（维基词典上得有这个词！）加上词条预览，把鼠标指针放在链接上，就自动搜索该词条，在悬浮框中显示词的解释，还有配图，如果有的话。（译者注：各位如果愿意去看的话，大约像某度百科的页面内自动搜索那样）开发团队希望征求各位的意见，你们认为这个功能有多大意义，有什么建设方面的建议，我们对各位的关注不胜感激！

关于通知的一些语法错误[编辑]

我是一个大陆籍维基人。近期我在编写词条的时候，看到我的通知和提醒里面有两个语法上面的小错误，希望维基词典尽快更正。

  1. “您刚刚作出了您的第一次编辑；感谢您，并欢迎您！”。中文里面的“并”字不适合用在这里。因此，我建议将这个“并”字删去。
  2. “有人回退了您对祖国大陆所作出的编辑”。首先，“回退”一词可以用“撤回”代替。其次，应该在“祖国大陆”这个词条名的后面写上“词条”二字，因为你不可能直接编辑祖国大陆（除非你是大陆的主席，否则搞不好就会一团糟）。

Improved search in deleted pages archive[编辑]

During Wikimedia Hackathon 2016, the Discovery team worked on one of the items on the 2015 community wishlist, namely enabling searching the archive of deleted pages. This feature is now ready for production deployment, and will be enabled on all wikis, except Wikidata.

Right now, the feature is behind a feature flag - to use it on your wiki, please go to the Special:Undelete page, and add &fuzzy=1 to the URL, like this: https://test.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AUndelete&fuzzy=1. Then search for the pages you're interested in. There should be more results than before, due to using ElasticSearch indexing (via the CirrusSearch extension).

We plan to enable this improved search by default on all wikis soon (around August 1, 2017). If you have any objections to this - please raise them with the Discovery team via email or on this announcement's discussion page. Like most Mediawiki configuration parameters, the functionality can be configured per wiki. Once the improved search becomes the default, you can still access the old mode using &fuzzy=0 in the URL, like this: https://test.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AUndelete&fuzzy=0

Please note that since Special:Undelete is an admin-only feature, this search capability is also only accessible to wiki admins.

编辑页面的按钮更新了。[编辑]

MediaWiki开发者正在推动用户界面可视化进程，于是乎，现在打算变动一些按钮，当然也包括它们的代码；有些页面包含过去的按钮相关的代码，这个改动会产生破坏性改变，所以需要维护。

以下是改变前和改变后版本比较。可能唯一看到的变化不过是有的按钮配色改变，还有的变大了一些。

关于德语变格表格问题[编辑]

关于巴别模板的问题[编辑]

中文维基词典的巴别模板好像有问题，ISO语言代码支持不全，想表示自己是希腊语和拉丁语的初级学习者打不出来。比如像这样写：

詞源模板與其他模板零亂的問題[编辑]

「詞源」模板(Template:-etym-)最早創立之時，是標準的小節模板，可以顯示像這樣的「詞源」小節：

如此一來，引用{{-etym-}}便可方便地創造一小節。 但此模板幾經不同人修改，目前標註「詞源」的模板只有「詞源」兩個純文字，原本直接引用此模板的詞條，小節標題變成了一般文字，造成格式破壞。

然而，不少新創的頁面因應新的模板格式，使用==={{-etym-}}===達到一樣效果，造成格式不統一的問題。我個人建議將此模板恢復原貌，但恐新創模板反而因此產生錯誤。 請問各位有無更佳的解決之道？

順帶一題，從這裡可以發現，分節標題的模板也不統一，且此類標題每種語言都要使用，造成修復工程曠日費時。實際上我個人認為回歸===名詞===等的方式對初學者來說比較友善，因此主張要嘛漸進廢掉這些模板(先不刪去，但建議往後的編輯者避免使用此類模板)，要嘛將這些模板整頓之後保護，不知各位意下如何？ Andrewlin1997（讨论） 2017年8月26日 (六) 07:17 (UTC)[回复]

wiktionary上的大量Unicode PUA（私用区）字符[编辑]

喃字页面上[3]（从右下角开始）有大量的PUA字符，经查实为喃字字体HAN NOM A.ttf [4]的私用区。由于私用区编码并不是标准的码位，任何字体都可以自己定义字形，故这些大量的PUA字符应当有处理措施。Unicode已收录的汉字是否应当删除？未收录的汉字是移动用IDS表示，还是直接删除？--Ming Fan 617（讨论） 2017年9月7日 (四) 10:39 (UTC)[回复]

某些分类（category）的问题[编辑]

有些词条可能套用了来自英语维基词典的模板，由于没有翻译导致分类出现纯英文或汉英混用的情况。说实话，有的差点把我笑死（具体例子有很多） 请问该如何修改才能使显示正常？Sayonzei（讨论） 2017年9月10日 (日) 03:58 (UTC)[回复]

关于小型条目、中型条目、大型条目（分类）[编辑]

个人想删掉这三个分类。原因如下：

  1. 这三个分类原本属于维基百科，就算要保留下来也应该是“词条”而不是“条目”。
  2. 词条大小和质量没有关系，有的词条看似内容很多，但其实有可能质量很差比如全抄百毒百科
  3. 大中小的分界不清晰。例如唯一的一个中型“条目”humectant（3,903字节）在80多万的词条中排在374位，这样大型词条可能就几百个，小型词条就会有几十万个……
  4. 对词条分大中小好像没什么意义。
  5. 这个计划已经很久没有人继续进行了。三个分类的创造时间已经是远古的2005年，当初的人可能想仿照维基百科给词条分大小，但是这样需要持续进行，因为词条总会有人去添加或删除内容，而这里人太少了不太实际。Sayonzei（讨论） 2017年9月10日 (日) 07:09 (UTC)[回复]

New print to pdf feature for mobile web readers

The Readers web team will be deploying a new feature this week to make it easier to download PDF versions of articles on the mobile website.

Providing better offline functionality was one of the highlighted areas from the research done by the New Readers team in Mexico, Nigeria, and India. The teams created a prototype for mobile PDFs which was evaluated by user research and community feedback. The prototype evaluation received positive feedback and results, so development continued.

For the initial deployment, the feature will be available to Google Chrome browsers on Android. Support for other mobile browsers to come in the future. For Chrome, the feature will use the native Android print functionality. Users can choose to download a webpage as a PDF. Mobile print styles will be used for these PDFs to ensure optimal readability for smaller screens.

The feature is available starting Wednesday, Nov 15. For more information, see the project page on MediaWiki.org.
