1970年代，由 Chinese (“中国的，中华的”) +‎ Taipei (“台北”) 组成。前半部分具有语意上的模糊性，可指实际统治台澎金马等地的中华民国，或指宣称拥有主权的中华人民共和国；后半部分则源自行政中心台北的威妥玛拼音。
