17世紀,詞源不詳,但可能源自transmiguretransmigrate。但還可能派生自maugre,因此一開始可能指「凶眼」,但受到了上一個詞源的影響,其詞義變換為「變形」。還有一種可能性是transfiguremodify的合併。
