源自中古英語 nymylnemelnemyllnymell (敏捷的,迅捷的;準備就緒的;有能的)古英語 nǣmel (善於學習的)古英語 numol (能夠拿穩的)的合併形式,兩者均源自niman (拿,取) + -el-ol (聯想後綴),等價於nim +‎ -le。對比德語 nehmen哥特語 𐌽𐌹𐌼𐌰𐌽 (niman)古諾爾斯語 nema ()。詳見nim
