仿译日语 不気味の谷 (ぶきみのたに, bukimi no tani),源自中古汉语 (pjuw) + (kì-mjɨ̀j, 感觉,感受) + 日语 (no, 名词修饰助词) + (たに, tani, 峡谷)。首次是由机器人专家森政弘于1970年使用。
