源自praesciēns (「預知的,預測的」),拉丁語 praesciō (「預知」)的現在分詞,源自prae- (「...之前」之意的前綴)(最終源自原始印歐語 *preh₂- (「在...之前」))+ sciō (「知道」)(最終源自原始印歐語 *skey- (「解剖,分割」))。與中古法語 prescient(現代形式法語 prescient (「有先見之明的」))、意大利語 presciente (「有先見之明的」)同源。[1]
