源自中古英语 with，源自古英语 wiþ，源自原始西日耳曼语 *wiþi，原始日耳曼语 *wiþrą (“反，反对”)的缩略形式。副词的释义可能是从其他日耳曼语意译的，例如 挪威语 med、瑞典语 med 和德语 mit。[1]
