借自西班牙语 horchata，源自加泰罗尼亚语/瓦伦西亚语 orxata (可能通过莫札拉布语)，源自通俗拉丁语 *hordeata (“大麦做的”)，源自；hordeum (“大麦”)。西班牙语词也可能源自意大利语 orzata。
与orgeat (“杏仁露”), 意大利语 orzata, 苏里南荷兰语 orgeade同源。[1]
