[编辑]古舊用法:源自中古英語 orguile ← 古法語 orgueil [1]← 通俗拉丁語 *orgōllia, *orgōlla ← 古法蘭克語 *orgōllja ← 原始日耳曼語 *uzgōljō(對比古英語 orgol, orgel。參見or- + *gōl (“炫耀,誇耀;氣派,顯赫”) / gale (“唱”))。與古高地德語 urguol, urguoli, urgilo, 西班牙語 orgullo同源。現代用法多是借自法語 orgueil。[2]
