詞源

源自中古英語 fagot，源自古法語 fagot (「一捆棒子」)，其詞源不詳。不太可能源自古奧克語 fagot或意大利語 fagotto，因為它們的出現晚於古法語詞。亦對比意大利語 fangotto和西班牙語 fajo (「捆，摞」)。可能源自通俗拉丁語 *facus的一指小詞，其源自拉丁語 fascis (「一捆柴」)。亦對比古高地德語 fazza (「捆，摞，堆」)。英語 fagotto 的同源對似詞。參見fag。

與人有關的義項可能源自「一捆棒子」，並得到了faygele的增補，其源自意第緒語 פֿייגעלע (feygele，「同性戀」，字面意思是「小鳥」)，其與英語 fowl有關。
