词源[编辑]
Fortescue 认为此词源自原始爱斯基摩语 *aʁvaɣ (“手的边缘”)，指的是到第五根手指后出现的东西。另外，Dorais 和 Starostin 亦认为此为继承自原始因纽特语 *aʁvi-，源自原始爱斯基摩语 *aʁvi-，两者的意义皆为“跨过”，指在达到第五个数字后跨到下一只手上。
