源自古法語 ensu-[1]ensuivre (紧跟着)(现代法语ensuivre)部分变位形式的词干,源自拉丁語 īnsequere,源自īnsequi (追随,跟着;接下来出现),源自in- ()(参考in-) + sequi ()(参考sequel)。
