借自法語 bureau (“桌 ←桌布”)，源自古法語 burel (“羊毛布”)，*bure的指小詞（對比中古法語 bure (“羊毛粗布”), 法語 bourre (“毛髮，絨毛”))，源自晚期拉丁語 burra (“羊毛，絨毛，破爛的衣服，粗纖維”)；對比古希臘語βερβέριον (berbérion, “破爛的衣服”)。
