[编辑]借自新拉丁語 academia，派生自古希臘語 Ἀκαδημία (Akadēmía)；academy的同源對似詞。Academe 是古雅典附近的花園或樹林的名稱，柏拉圖曾在此講學；據說以其前主人阿卡德摩斯（Ἀκάδημος／Ἑκάδημος，希臘神話中一位阿提卡英雄）命名。
