繼承自中古英語 abime，源自古法語 abisme，源自晚期拉丁語 *abyssimus，abyssus (“無底洞”) 的最高級，源自古希臘語 ἄβυσσος (ábussos)。與法語 abîme 同源。參見 abyss。[1][2]
