源自荷蘭語 vrolijk (歡喜的),源自中古荷蘭語 vrolijc,源自古荷蘭語 frōlīk,源自原始日耳曼語 *frawalīkaz。對比德語 fröhlich (開心的,快樂的)

前一個元素,最終源自原始日耳曼語 *frawaz並與中古英語 frow (匆忙的)同源;之後的元素,最終源自*-līkaz並與-ly-like同源。
