源自中古英語 plommet (铅球,摆锤),自1382年有书面记录,源自古法語 plommet或者plometplomplum (测深锤)的指小词,源自拉丁語 plumbum ()。动词最早记录见于1626年,表示“测量,测深”,其源自名词。
