De-Recognition of Wikimedia Hong Kong[編輯]

Recognition as a Wikimedia movement affiliate — a chapter, thematic organization, or user group — is a privilege that allows an independent group to officially use the Wikimedia trademarks to further the Wikimedia mission.

The principal Wikimedia movement affiliate in the Hong Kong region is Wikimedia Hong Kong, a Wikimedia chapter recognized in 2008. As a result of Wikimedia Hong Kong’s long-standing non-compliance with reporting requirements, the Wikimedia Foundation and the Affiliations Committee have determined that Wikimedia Hong Kong’s status as a Wikimedia chapter will not be renewed after February 1, 2017.

Review of initial updates on Wikimedia movement strategy process[編輯]

The Wikimedia movement is beginning a movement-wide strategy discussion, a process which will run throughout 2017. For 15 years, Wikimedians have worked together to build the largest free knowledge resource in human history. During this time, we've grown from a small group of editors to a diverse network of editors, developers, affiliates, readers, donors, and partners. Today, we are more than a group of websites. We are a movement rooted in values and a powerful vision: all knowledge for all people. As a movement, we have an opportunity to decide where we go from here.

This movement strategy discussion will focus on the future of our movement: where we want to go together, and what we want to achieve. We hope to design an inclusive process that makes space for everyone: editors, community leaders, affiliates, developers, readers, donors, technology platforms, institutional partners, and people we have yet to reach. There will be multiple ways to participate including on-wiki, in private spaces, and in-person meetings. You are warmly invited to join and make your voice heard.

The immediate goal is to have a strategic direction by Wikimania 2017 to help frame a discussion on how we work together toward that strategic direction.

Regular updates are being sent to the Wikimedia-l mailing list, and posted on Meta-Wiki. Beginning with this message, monthly reviews of these updates will be sent to this page as well. Sign up to receive future announcements and monthly highlights of strategy updates on your user talk page.

Dear Wikimedians/Wikipedians:

Today we are starting a broad discussion to define Wikimedia's future role in the world and develop a collaborative strategy to fulfill that role. You are warmly invited to join the conversation.

There are many ways to participate, by joining an existing conversation or starting your own:

Track A (organized groups): Discussions with your affiliate, committee or other organized group (these are groups that support the Wikimedia movement).

Track B (individual contributors): On Meta or your local language or project wiki.

This is the first of three conversations, and it will run between now and April 15. The purpose of cycle 1 is to discuss the future of the movement and generate major themes around potential directions. What do we want to build or achieve together over the next 15 years?

We welcome you, as we create this conversation together, and look forward to broad and diverse participation from all parts of our movement.

On behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation Elections Committee, I am pleased to announce that self-nominations are being accepted for the 2017 Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees Elections.

The Board of Trustees (Board) is the decision-making body that is ultimately responsible for the long-term sustainability of the Wikimedia Foundation, so we value wide input into its selection. More information about this role can be found on Meta-Wiki. Please read the letter from the Board of Trustees calling for candidates.

The candidacy submission phase will last from April 7 (00:00 UTC) to April 20 (23:59 UTC).

We will also be accepting questions to ask the candidates from April 7 to April 20. You can submit your questions on Meta-Wiki.

Once the questions submission period has ended on April 20, the Elections Committee will then collate the questions for the candidates to respond to beginning on April 21.

The goal of this process is to fill the three community-selected seats on the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees. The election results will be used by the Board itself to select its new members.

The full schedule for the Board elections is as follows. All dates are inclusive, that is, from the beginning of the first day (UTC) to the end of the last.

  • April 7 (00:00 UTC) – April 20 (23:59 UTC) – Board nominations
  • April 7 – April 20 – Board candidates questions submission period
  • April 21 – April 30 – Board candidates answer questions
  • May 1 – May 14 – Board voting period
  • May 15–19 – Board vote checking
  • May 20 – Board result announcement goal

In addition to the Board elections, we will also soon be holding elections for the following roles:

  • Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC)
    • There are five positions being filled. More information about this election will be available on Meta-Wiki.
  • Funds Dissemination Committee Ombudsperson (Ombuds)
    • One position is being filled. More information about this election will be available on Meta-Wiki.

Please note that this year the Board of Trustees elections will be held before the FDC and Ombuds elections. Candidates who are not elected to the Board are explicitly permitted and encouraged to submit themselves as candidates to the FDC or Ombuds positions after the results of the Board elections are announced.

關於某些英語單詞頁面被單向轉換的問題[編輯]

Cognate以及自動跨語言鏈接[編輯]

從4月24日起，一個新的跨語言鏈接系統將在維基詞典部署。 它叫Cognate，這個擴展可以在各個維基詞典之間，自動將擁有相同標題的頁面相互鏈接。這意味着這些鏈接將不再需要添加到主名字空間的頁面中。

測試功能：分列對比的編輯視圖[編輯]

5月9日起, 分列對比視圖功能上線了，尚屬於測試功能。這意味着在編輯衝突解決方案時，可以用新的操作界面。分列對比視圖功能，可以方便編輯者在衝突詞條和已編輯詞條上找不同；同時，複製粘貼也更方便，這樣編輯可能會更快，更容易上手一些，也算是幫助解決了過去用戶們的技術需求(WMDE Technical Wishes)之一。各位編輯先試用看看用戶體驗。

RevisionSlider[編輯]

RevisionSlider will be available as a default feature for all users on all wikis from May 17. The RevisionSlider adds a slider view to the diff page so that you can easily move between revisions. The slider view is collapsed by default, and will load by clicking on it. It can also be turned off entirely in the user preferences. RevisionSlider has been a default feature on German, Arabic and Hebrew Wikipedia for 6 months and a beta feature on all wikis for 8 months. The feature fulfills a wish from the German Community’s Technical Wishlist. Thanks to everyone who tested RevisionSlider and gave valuable feedback to improve the feature! We hope that RevisionSlider will continue to serve you well in your work.

準備推出新功能：詞條預覽[編輯]

各位編輯們：

鑑於定性和定量的調查結果是樂觀的，維基媒體基金會的前端開發團隊準備再推出一個測試功能：詞條預覽 (Page Preview)。

這個，詞條預覽不是指編輯完詞條之後預覽頁面，而是說，查閱維基詞典的各位，如果對一個詞條中的某些用語沒辦法充分理解，而這個用語又恰好有關聯了鏈接的話，那就可以看到這個用語的詞條頁面，而不用離開現在所在的詞條頁面了。然而，維基詞典的頁面現在對這個功能的支持，對於維基詞典社區用戶們的需求，顯然是不夠的。

打算開發這樣的功能，給詞條內容中的每個用語（維基詞典上得有這個詞！）加上詞條預覽，把鼠標指針放在鏈接上，就自動搜索該詞條，在懸浮框中顯示詞的解釋，還有配圖，如果有的話。（譯者註：各位如果願意去看的話，大約像某度百科的頁面內自動搜索那樣）開發團隊希望徵求各位的意見，你們認為這個功能有多大意義，有什麼建設方面的建議，我們對各位的關注不勝感激！

關於通知的一些語法錯誤[編輯]

我是一個大陸籍維基人。近期我在編寫詞條的時候，看到我的通知和提醒裡面有兩個語法上面的小錯誤，希望維基詞典儘快更正。

  1. 「您剛剛作出了您的第一次編輯；感謝您，並歡迎您！」。中文裡面的「並」字不適合用在這裡。因此，我建議將這個「並」字刪去。
  2. 「有人回退了您對祖國大陸所作出的編輯」。首先，「回退」一詞可以用「撤回」代替。其次，應該在「祖國大陸」這個詞條名的後面寫上「詞條」二字，因為你不可能直接編輯祖國大陸（除非你是大陸的主席，否則搞不好就會一團糟）。

Improved search in deleted pages archive[編輯]

During Wikimedia Hackathon 2016, the Discovery team worked on one of the items on the 2015 community wishlist, namely enabling searching the archive of deleted pages. This feature is now ready for production deployment, and will be enabled on all wikis, except Wikidata.

Right now, the feature is behind a feature flag - to use it on your wiki, please go to the Special:Undelete page, and add &fuzzy=1 to the URL, like this: https://test.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AUndelete&fuzzy=1. Then search for the pages you're interested in. There should be more results than before, due to using ElasticSearch indexing (via the CirrusSearch extension).

We plan to enable this improved search by default on all wikis soon (around August 1, 2017). If you have any objections to this - please raise them with the Discovery team via email or on this announcement's discussion page. Like most Mediawiki configuration parameters, the functionality can be configured per wiki. Once the improved search becomes the default, you can still access the old mode using &fuzzy=0 in the URL, like this: https://test.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AUndelete&fuzzy=0

Please note that since Special:Undelete is an admin-only feature, this search capability is also only accessible to wiki admins.

編輯頁面的按鈕更新了。[編輯]

MediaWiki開發者正在推動用戶界面可視化進程，於是乎，現在打算變動一些按鈕，當然也包括它們的代碼；有些頁面包含過去的按鈕相關的代碼，這個改動會產生破壞性改變，所以需要維護。

以下是改變前和改變後版本比較。可能唯一看到的變化不過是有的按鈕配色改變，還有的變大了一些。

關於德語變格表格問題[編輯]

在英語維基詞典上我對dein做出修改，增加了名詞變格表格，但是被告知不在已變格的詞裡加變格表格，我想知道中文維基是否也有此限制。個人認為加入變格表格會方便查閱。 (rv: we don't give inflection tables in entries of inflected forms) deine:differeces between revisions --March happy（討論） 2017年8月15日 (二) 00:16 (UTC)[回覆]

關於巴別模板的問題[編輯]

中文維基詞典的巴別模板好像有問題，ISO語言代碼支持不全，想表示自己是希臘語和拉丁語的初級學習者打不出來。比如像這樣寫：

詞源模板與其他模板零亂的問題[編輯]

「詞源」模板(Template:-etym-)最早創立之時，是標準的小節模板，可以顯示像這樣的「詞源」小節：

如此一來，引用{{-etym-}}便可方便地創造一小節。 但此模板幾經不同人修改，目前標註「詞源」的模板只有「詞源」兩個純文字，原本直接引用此模板的詞條，小節標題變成了一般文字，造成格式破壞。

然而，不少新創的頁面因應新的模板格式，使用==={{-etym-}}===達到一樣效果，造成格式不統一的問題。我個人建議將此模板恢復原貌，但恐新創模板反而因此產生錯誤。 請問各位有無更佳的解決之道？

順帶一題，從這裡可以發現，分節標題的模板也不統一，且此類標題每種語言都要使用，造成修復工程曠日費時。實際上我個人認為回歸===名詞===等的方式對初學者來說比較友善，因此主張要嘛漸進廢掉這些模板(先不刪去，但建議往後的編輯者避免使用此類模板)，要嘛將這些模板整頓之後保護，不知各位意下如何？ Andrewlin1997（討論） 2017年8月26日 (六) 07:17 (UTC)[回覆]

我也覺得要廢掉{{-n-}}這樣的模板，實在是直接打文字還好好的，何必用模板。此外{{汉语}}等模板也得要考慮一下，因為它會妨礙段落的編輯，尤對手機版視圖的編輯不利。--SolidBlock（討論） 2017年11月4日 (六) 23:46 (UTC)[回覆]

wiktionary上的大量Unicode PUA（私用區）字符[編輯]

喃字頁面上[3]（從右下角開始）有大量的PUA字符，經查實為喃字字體HAN NOM A.ttf [4]的私用區。由於私用區編碼並不是標準的碼位，任何字體都可以自己定義字形，故這些大量的PUA字符應當有處理措施。Unicode已收錄的漢字是否應當刪除？未收錄的漢字是移動用IDS表示，還是直接刪除？--Ming Fan 617（討論） 2017年9月7日 (四) 10:39 (UTC)[回覆]

某些分類（category）的問題[編輯]

有些詞條可能套用了來自英語維基詞典的模板，由於沒有翻譯導致分類出現純英文或漢英混用的情況。說實話，有的差點把我笑死（具體例子有很多） 請問該如何修改才能使顯示正常？Sayonzei（討論） 2017年9月10日 (日) 03:58 (UTC)[回覆]

關於小型條目、中型條目、大型條目（分類）[編輯]

個人想刪掉這三個分類。原因如下：

  1. 這三個分類原本屬於維基百科，就算要保留下來也應該是「詞條」而不是「條目」。
  2. 詞條大小和質量沒有關係，有的詞條看似內容很多，但其實有可能質量很差比如全抄百毒百科
  3. 大中小的分界不清晰。例如唯一的一個中型「條目」humectant（3,903字節）在80多万的詞條中排在374位，這樣大型詞條可能就幾百個，小型詞條就會有幾十萬個……
  4. 對詞條分大中小好像沒什麼意義。
  5. 這個計劃已經很久沒有人繼續進行了。三個分類的創造時間已經是遠古的2005年，當初的人可能想仿照維基百科給詞條分大小，但是這樣需要持續進行，因為詞條總會有人去添加或刪除內容，而這裡人太少了不太實際。Sayonzei（討論） 2017年9月10日 (日) 07:09 (UTC)[回覆]

New print to pdf feature for mobile web readers

The Readers web team will be deploying a new feature this week to make it easier to download PDF versions of articles on the mobile website.

Providing better offline functionality was one of the highlighted areas from the research done by the New Readers team in Mexico, Nigeria, and India. The teams created a prototype for mobile PDFs which was evaluated by user research and community feedback. The prototype evaluation received positive feedback and results, so development continued.

For the initial deployment, the feature will be available to Google Chrome browsers on Android. Support for other mobile browsers to come in the future. For Chrome, the feature will use the native Android print functionality. Users can choose to download a webpage as a PDF. Mobile print styles will be used for these PDFs to ensure optimal readability for smaller screens.

The feature is available starting Wednesday, Nov 15. For more information, see the project page on MediaWiki.org.
