词源[编辑]

源自泰米尔语 பறையர் (paṟaiyar),源自பறையன் (paṟaiyaṉ, 鼓手),源自பறை (paṟai, )马拉雅拉姆语 പറയർ (paṟayar),源自പറയൻ (paṟayan, 鼓手),源自പറ (paṟa, )。泰米尔语中的parai或马来语中的para指的是一种王要宣布消息时敲的大型鼓。专职敲parai的人称为paraiyar,在基于种姓的社会阶层中属较低等级,因此派生出了这个词。
