源自中古英语 nymylnemelnemyllnymell (敏捷的,迅捷的;准备就绪的;有能的)古英语 nǣmel (善于学习的)古英语 numol (能够拿稳的)的合并形式,两者均源自niman (拿,取) + -el-ol (联想后缀),等价于nim +‎ -le。对比德语 nehmen哥特语 𐌽𐌹𐌼𐌰𐌽 (niman)古诺尔斯语 nema ()。详见nim
