skin +‎ kinship組成的混成詞，亦可分析为skin +‎ -ship。早在1966年便在牛津英语词典内有记载，可能是仿譯自日語 スキンシップ (sukinshippu)，其本身是一个可追溯到至早1955年的和制英语（日本创造的伪英语词），另可能源自朝鮮語 스킨십 (seukinsip)（1971年或更晚）。日语内亦早在1955年就有拉丁字母书写的该单词。
