源自中古英語 tryst、trist，源自古法語 tristre (「等待地點，打獵時約定的地方」)，可能源自北日耳曼語支，比如古諾爾斯語 treysta (「保全」)，源自traust (「信任，安全，幫助，藏身處」)，源自原始日耳曼語 *traustą (「信任，避難所」)，源自原始印歐語 *deru-、*dreu-、*drū- (「確信」)。trust的同源對似詞（亦參見）。
