詞源[編輯]
源自中古英語 dafte、defte (「溫柔的;禮貌的;謙遜的;尷尬的;無聊的;粗野的」),源自古英語 dæfte (「樂於助人的;溫柔的」)[1],源自原始西日耳曼語 *daftī (「合適的」),最終源自原始印歐語 *dʰh₂ebʰ- (「適」)。與古英語 dafnian、dafenian (「合適的」)、俄語 до́брый (dóbryj, 「好的」)有關。
對比silly,其原指「很好的;無辜的;可憐的;弱小的」,但現在指「愚蠢的」。[2]
與daff (「笨蛋;愚蠢的」)(過去式daffed)無關,但可能受到了其影響。
