源自法語 antiphone或中世紀拉丁語 antiphōna，源自古希臘語 ἀντίφωνα (antíphōna)，ἀντίφωνος (antíphōnos, 「一致的」)的中性複數名詞，源自ἀντί (antí) + φωνή (phōnḗ, 「聲音」)。對比anthem。
