源自美国保守派参议员Rick Santorum的姓氏。^[1]他曾将同性恋比作兽交，又称达到规定年龄的成年人在性行为方面并不享有宪法规定的隐私权。^[2]此后，美国专栏作家Dan Savage收集了读者的意见，举办了一场比赛来定义并“铭记这次丑闻”。^[3]Savage 建立了相关网站来定义这个词并推广出去。^[4]
