didder的变体,源自中古英语 dideren (“发抖”)。对比中古英语 bididren、bididdren (“诱导,误导”),源自古英语 bedidrian、bedyderian (“诱导,误导”)。
另,可能与*titeren的表达性质的浊化有关,源自原始日耳曼语 *titrōną。若如此,它则是teeter的同源对似词,同源词有古高地德语 zittarōn(德语 zittern)和古诺尔斯语 titra(法罗语 titra、冰岛语 titra)。或者可能是一个无关的叠词拟声词。
