源自古法語 evangeliste，源自教會拉丁語 evangelista，源自教會古希臘語 εὐαγγελιστής (euangelistḗs, “傳福音者”)，源自εὐαγγελίζεσθαι (euangelízesthai, “傳福音”)，源自εὐάγγελος (euángelos, “帶來好消息”)，源自εὖ (eû, “好”) + ἀγγέλλειν (angéllein, “告知”)。
