源自me (代詞賓語形式) + think (「似乎」)。在近代英語中,被威廉·莎士比亞使用了不下150次,在中古英語中,傑弗里·喬叟使用me thinketh,而在古英語中,阿爾弗雷德大帝使用mē þyncþ。 對比德語中的等價用法mich dünkt。
