詞源[編輯]

借自法語 macabre，其詞源不詳，[1]但可能源自danse macabre —— 其作定語時為形容詞 —— 一般認為是聖經名字Maccabees的變體，對比拉丁語 Chorea Machabaeorum。

另一理論認為其派生自西班牙語 macabro，源自阿拉伯語 مَقَابِر (maqābir, 「墓地」)，مَقْبَرَة (maqbara)或مَقْبُرَة (maqbura)的複數形式。而直接借用阿拉伯語複數的例子並不鮮見。
